Season 4 Episode 4

Let’s continue my new weekly tradition of adding some info from the previous weeks episode as discovered through the “missing pieces” repeat:

“The episode is entitled “The Economist” a name shared by a British magazine which publishes its articles anonymously.”

After killing the man on the golf course:
“Sayid vowed he’d never torture again so one might wonder if he ever found redemption on the island.”

As Daniel sets up his experiment:
“The ship is 80 nautical miles from the island. That’s the equivalent of 92.0623 miles. “

As Desmond arrives with Juliet:
“Desmond saw a helicopter in one of his ‘flashes’. He told Charlie he saw Claire and Aaron leaving the island in a helicopter prompting Charlie to sacrifice himself to help secure their rescue.”

When it is revealed Hurley set up Sayid:
“This turn of events is an homage to ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ when Han Solo was lured into a trap by Lando Cairissian.”

When Sayid tells Elsa her boss is on a list:
“The Others kept lists of survivors but this is the first list to be mentioned off the island.”
The point of course is Ben made both lists.

The final scene:
“It is appropriate this flash forward unfolds against the backdrop of Berlin, a city where east meets west, where the unimaginable once happened and two opposing sides unified.”

Season 4 Episode 4
Eggtown
Kate flash-forward

Locke brings Ben breakfast and a book to read:
Locke: “Help ya pass the time.”
Ben: “I’ve already read it.”
Locke: “You might catch something you missed the second time around.”
I always do John, I always do.

Next we see Kate and Claire having a coffee. Coffee mugs provided by Dharma, as well as the Wal-Mart Mainstay collection.

Jin is trying to find a place for he and Sun to live. He starts with Albuquerque Kate’s hometown. Sun is determined to raise the baby in Korea (my money is on at least Sun being one of the Oceanic 6).

Jack, Juliet, Dan and Charlotte reach the beach. Jack introduces everyone:
Jack: “… they can make arrangements to get all of us off this island.”
The look on Dan’s face seems to say otherwise.

Kate wants to track down Miles so she can figure out if the freighter-ites knows she’s a fugitive. She tricks Hurley into giving up his location:
Hurley: “You just totally Scooby Dooed me didn’t you?”

Kate makes a deal with Miles to get him a conversation with Ben, if he shares what he knows about her.

Kate is uncomfortable around a baby:
Kate: “I’m just not very good with babies.”
Claire: “The last thing I ever thought I’d be good at is being a mom.”
That’s true, since we know Claire was on her way to LA to give up her baby.

Hurley has some Xanadu on the TV when Kate drops by. She recruits Sawyer into tricking Locke so she can hook up Miles and Ben. And what better way to trick Locke than using the game he and Walt used to play, backgammon.

Locke is surprised to discover Sawyer knows where Miles is:
Sawyer: “If Hugo knows everyone knows.”

While Locke and Sawyer are at the boat house Kate sneaks Miles into the basement:
Miles: “You know who I am?”
Ben: “Yes.”
Miles: “You know who I work for?”
Ben: “Yes.”
Miles: “Then you know he’s put a lot of time and energy into finding you. So now I found you and I can tell him exactly where you are. Or I can lie and tell him you’re already dead. And I’d be willing to do that for 3.2 million dollars.”
Ben: “You arranged this meeting to blackmail me?”
Miles: “It’s extortion if you wanna get technical.”
Ben: “3.2, why not 3.3 or 3.4? (I’m sure there’s a better reason but 32 backwards is 23) What makes you think I have access to that kind of money?”
Miles: “Do not treat me like I’m one of them, like I don’t know who you are and what you can do.”
Ben: “Your friend Charlotte seen me, she knows I’m alive.”
Miles: “I’ll take care of Charlotte you just worry about getting me the money. You have two days.”
Ben: “My present situation is a little bit restricted can that be amended?”
Miles: “Ok one week, in cash. And don’t even think about…”
At that Kate pulls Miles out of the room, where he confirms that he knows everything about Kate. She turns Miles back over to Locke who then bans her from O-Town.

Back on the beach we find out Dan’s memory isn’t so great. Charlotte calls the freighter and Ragina tells her she hasn’t heard a word from the helicopter.

Locke ties Miles back up in the boat house. And to make sure he doesn’t do anymore talking he gives him a grenade sandwich:
Locke: “Enjoy your breakfast.”

After spending one last night with Sawyer before returning to the beach, Kate is disappointed over Sawyer’s joy at the news she isn’t pregnant:
Kate: “Would it have been the worst thing in the world?”
Sawyer: “Yes, yes it would have been the worst thing in the world.”
HAHAHA

Sawyer: “… cause in about a week you’ll find some reason to get pissed at Jack and bounce right back to me.”
That line was well worth getting slapped over.

Now let’s travel forward in time …

Kate is being brought into the court house through a crowd of onlookers. Now this crazy dude shouts something at her.

I played this back 20 times and couldn’t figure out what he said. Then I remembered the old rule, when something doesn’t sound right in Lost play it backwards. Sure enough when you play it backwards he screams “WE HATE YOU.”

Kate is denied bail. We learn Kate’s mom is still alive but more importantly that Kate has a son. This is most likely who Kate was referring to when she said this:
Season 3 Episode 22, Kate speaking to Jack
Kate: “I have to go. He’s gonna be wondering where I am.”

Kate’s Lawyer calls Jack as a character witness:
Jack: “On September 22nd, 2004, Kate… Miss Austen and I were both passengers on Oceanic flight 815 which crash landed on an island in the South Pacific.”
Lawyer: “Were you aware that Miss Austen was a fugitive being transported by a United States Marshall on the flight to Los Angeles for trial.”
Jack: “I did learn that eventually, yes.”
Lawyer: “From the US Marshall?”
Jack: “No the Marshall died in the crash. I never spoke to him. Miss Austen told me.”

This of course is a lie, the Marshall did survive for a few days and he did tell Jack about Kate.

Lawyer: “Did you ever ask her if she was guilty.”
Jack: “Never.”
Lawyer: “Well it seems like a reasonable question, why not?”
Jack: “I just assumed there’d been some kind of mistake.”
Lawyer: “And why would you think that?”
Jack: “Only eight of us survived the crash. We landed in the water. I was hurt pretty badly. In fact if it weren’t for her I would have never made it to the shore. She took care of me. She took care of all of us. She gave us first aid, water, found food and shelter. She tried to save the other two but…”

At that Kate cuts him off. Now as we know all of that was a lie but it’s likely the story the Oceanic 6 gave when they got off the island. I have some other comments about Jack’s speech which I’ll save for the end.

Jack tells the DA he doesn’t love Kate anymore. Kate gets to see her mommy for the first time in a long time. She says she doesn’t want to testify just wants to see her grandson. Kate refuses.

Did you notice the DA’s first to offers to Kate? 15 years and then 4 years. Even lawyers love the magic numbers. In the end Kate leaves with 10 years probation and isn’t allowed to leave the state. No wonder she can’t go back to the island like Jack and Hurley want to do.

Jack lets Kate know he does love her, but doesn’t want to see her son.

Then the big twist ending.
THE FINAL SCENE
Baby: “Hi mommy.”
Kate: “Hi Aaron.”

OK… this episode raises numerous questions. I’ll try to give some theories I have on this:

Why does Jack say 8 people survived the crash instead of just 6?
Either way it’s a lie but why add two more people that you have to explain away. I think this will play a role in the later episodes.

Why doesn’t Jack want to see Aaron?
I have two theories on this. One being the fact that Aaron is Jack’s nephew. We learned last season that Christian Sheppard was both Jack and Claire’s father. Second, this flash-forward is before Jack’s season ending flash-forward, so Jack at this point doesn’t want to be reminded about the island.

How does Kate get Aaron?
With Charlie’s death, rumors of a regular cast member being killed off this season and this new information things don’t look good for Claire surviving. Perhaps she dies and gives Aaron to Kate. One hole in that theory is that Desmond seen Claire and Aaron getting on a helicopter and leaving the island. But I guess that is no guarantee they make it back to the real world.

Now Claire could get scared that someone else will take Aaron when she gets to the real world, as she was on her way to LA to give him up. But why not keep Aaron and stay on the island?

My real question about this whole scenario is, how does Kate pull this off? When rescue comes how does she explain how somehow she had a child? Claire was 8 months pregnant on the flight. Kate clearly was not. No matter how much time passes now there will be no explaining how she gave birth.

Who are the Oceanic 6?
First 4 we know
Kate
Jack
Hurley
Sayid

Does Aaron count as number 5? Was he technically on flight 815? Certainly he wouldn’t be on the manifest.
What about Michael and Walt? They are at least off the island right now, do they make it.
And I still got my money on Sun, she can’t have that baby on the island.

Guess we’ll have to wait and see

Season 4 Episode 3

Let’s start with a little news here. This season of Lost was originally scheduled for 16 episodes. By the time the writers strike began the producers had completed the first 8. They are now attempting to complete at least 5 more episodes to end the season (meaning 3 episodes will be “Lost” or added onto next season.). This may cause a 3 to 4 week delay between episodes 8 and 9, but I’ll keep you posted as this transpires.

Now for those of you who don’t know, ABC has been replaying the previous week’s episodes at 9pm (Atlantic time) before each new episode every week. They’ve been calling these episodes “the missing pieces” as they add information and clues to the bottom of the screen throughout the episode. I’ve made some notes of things we may have missed from last week…

During the flashback where Daniel is watching the news about the discovery of 815:
“The woman is not his wife, but his caregiver”
So he really is a nutjob like Naomi said.

As the helicopter is starting to crash and Daniel is pushed out
“The island is proving to be a hard place to reach”

I also noticed the following conversation:
Charlotte: “I can’t find my vest”
Miles: “Check under your seat”
Charlotte: “I already did”
Miles: “Here just take mine”
If it wasn’t for that moment Charlotte would be dead

The episode points out the connection I made last week between Daniel’s last name and the physicist Michael Faraday.

When Ben and Locke realize Hurley has seen Jacob’s cabin:
“Ben claims one does not visit Jacob, instead Jacob ‘summons you’. So perhaps Hurley is special as well”

When Miles first appears in the flashback it compares his full name, Miles Straume, to the word Maelstrom.
Maelstrom:
-a situation marked by confusion, turbulence, strong feelings, violence, or destruction

The episode also pointed out the connection I made between Charlotte Staples Lewis and CS Lewis:
“Chronicles of Narnia – the story about an unlikely journey to a most unusual place”

During Naomi’s flashback scene:
“Naomi is getting her orders from Matthew Abaddon. Abaddon is a biblical reference meaning “guardian of the abyss”
When Miles radios the freighter:
“George Minkowski is the man who answered Jack’s first call for help. He shares his name with Hermann Minkowski a German mathematician who introduced the concept of ‘spacetime’”
To put it briefly the concept of spacetime discusses how time is the fourth dimension and not a constant as we perceive it to be. Makes a lot of sense toward tonight’s episode.

On my own I also researched this little tidbit. In Season 3 Episode 14 (Exposé) we can see the script from the TV show Nikki was in. Notice the same last name as our helicopter pilot Frank Lapidus there. Has to be some relationship … I mean this is Lost.

Now on with the show

Season 4 Episode 3
The Economist
Sayid Flash-forward.

On the island we see Jack and Miles discussing Ben. If you are re-watching this scene turn up the volume it’s hard to hear:
Jack: “What do you want with him?”
Miles: “I want to locate him. The people who hired me told me his name was Benjamin Linus, he gave me this picture and that’s all he told me. He said find him. And for what they’re paying me I don’t need to know anything else.

Sayid checks out Naomi’s bracelet which is engraved:
“N, I’ll always be with you R.C.”

He then makes a deal to get to the freighter if he brings Charlotte back safe.

Juliet heads back to the beach to get Desmond. It seems that Kate considers returning as well but realizes she can get some alone time with Jack (or at least without Juliet around).

Miles: “Hey Jarrah, do you think you are going after Charlotte without me?”
Sayid: “Of course not.”
Miles: “Oh… well good.”
Little does he know he’ll be traded for Charlotte.

Locke is still on the hunt for Jacob’s cabin but it seems to have vanished.
Ben: “John’s looking for someone to tell him what to do next.”

Hurley and Locke have a little spat so Locke makes some things clear:
Locke: “… and right now Hugo I’m making the decisions. Is that gonna be a problem for you?”

Kate is trying to flirt with Jack but he tells her to go help Sayid:
Kate: “Don’t you trust Sayid?”
Jack: “I don’t trust Locke.”
Kate: “And what’s preventing him from doing to me what he did to Naomi?”
Jack: “Sawyer won’t let him.”
B U R N ! !

Seems Daniel is trying out a little experiment. He calls the ship but Frank warns him:
Frank: “If Minkowski gets on there you hang up right away.”
A little dissension among the freighter-ites perhaps?
Ragina launches a package to the island that doesn’t arrive:
Daniel: “That is far more than weird.”

As Kate, Miles and Sayid arrive at O-town Miles starts to get the impression there are more people on this island than he realizes:
Miles: “What’s with the swing set, these people have daycare?”

The trio discovers Hurley tied and gagged. The Miles calls him tubby:
Hurley: “Oh awesome the ship sent us another Sawyer.”

Jack and Frank talk baseball, and Frank confirms the Red Sox did win the series:
Jack: “Can’t believe it’s been 100 days since I saw a game.”
The rocket from the ship then lands and has a clock inside. Seems that this clock and the clock on the island are 31 minutes apart.

Rocket Clock

Sayid finds Ben’s secret room with money and passports in it.

Dean Moriarty is one of the protagonists in Jack Kerouac's novel On the Road. Dean grew up in Colorado with a hobo/bum for a father

The trio then discovers that Hurley was faking and the Locke Squad shows up:
Sayid: “I’m not going to hurt you Hurley.”
Hurley: “Yeah I saw you snap that guy’s neck with that break dancing thing you do with your legs. I think I’ll hang back here.”

Sawyer questions Kate’s reasons for getting off the island:
Sawyer: “Why do you wanna go back Kate? I seem to recall you being shuttled off to jail before we landed here.”

Ben: “I’m thirsty”

Locke informs Sayid about Ben’s “man on the boat”:
Sayid: “Forgive me but the day I start trusting him is the day I would have sold my soul”
I guess we can look forward to that day in a Sayid flash-forward episode.

Desmond arrives at the helicopter:
Desmond: “So you look me right in the eye and tell me you’re never seen or heard of Penelope Widmore.” Long pause “Fine you don’t want to tell me the truth; I’ll find someone who will.”

Sayid returns and tells Jack that Kate decided to stay. Not exactly what happened I guess. When he explains to Frank he traded Miles:
Frank: “Lucky for you that guys nothing but a pain in my ass.”
Frank offers Charlotte a seat on the helicopter:
Charlotte: “Go back with all the fun I’m having here? No, I got work to do.”

So the three boys and Naomi’s body load up for the freighter:
Daniel: "Just be sure you follow the same exact bearing that we came in on ok? No matter what and by that I mean no matter what just stay on it.”
I recall our pal Michael getting similar directions.

Now to Sayid “the hitman” Jarrah… newest member of the Oceanic 6.

We first run into Sayid golfing in Europe where he meets an Italian man. It sounded like “Mr. Adeline” but was hard to understand over Sayid’s accent. Once he realizes Sayid is one of the O6 he gets really nervous. And for good cause, as Sayid kills him. The sprinklers turning on were a nice added touch.

Sayid then makes his way to Berlin where he meets Elsa, who is working on some Sudokus.

Sayid is looking to kill her boss. After meeting her he phones someone:
Sayid: “I’ve made contact” then throws the phone away.

In a hint that Elsa may not be as dumb as she seems she decides to leave her pager home. Sayid insists on taking it with him.
Elsa: “Do you have a boss?”
Sayid: “Everyone has a boss Elsa.”

Sometime later Elsa tells Sayid she is falling in love with him. At that her pager goes off. He feels bad for Elsa so tries to warn her of his intentions.
Sayid: “His name is on a list. The man you are working for is not an economist.”

At that Elsa shoots Sayid. She calls presumably her boss on the phone and makes some interesting quotes:
Elsa: “You were supposed to call at 10:30… why should I keep him alive… he had no idea…I’ll bring him to you.”
BANG BANG… Sayid shoots Elsa. As he gets closer to her we notice she is wearing a similar braclet to Naomi.

Sayid is off to get repaired and we discover Ben is his boss:
THE FINAL SCENE
Ben: “Is she dead?”
Sayid: “Yes.”
Ben: “Why didn’t she kill you?”
Sayid: “She was trying to get information from me.”
Ben: “What sort of information?”
Sayid: “She wanted to know who I worked for. She wanted to know about you.”
Ben: “Of course she did. Why are you crying, because it hurts or because you were stupid enough to care for her? These people don’t deserve our sympathies. Need I remind you what they did the last time you thought with your heart instead of your gun?” (Nadia perhaps?)
Sayid: “You used that to recruit me into killing for you.”
Ben: “You wanna protect your friends or not Sayid? I have another name for you.”
Sayid: “But they know I’m after them now.”
Ben: “Goooooood”

Season 4 Episode 2

Season 4 Episode 2 – Confirmed Dead
Freighter-ites Flashback

So someone went to a lot of work to stage the wreckage of Oceanic Flight 815. Now Mr. Ben Linus is very serious about keeping everyone on the island and everyone else away. It sure would make sense for him to set this up.

Daniel Faraday
We first see Daniel watching the discovery of the fake 815 on TV in Essex, Massachusetts. Daniel finds this very upsetting but claims even he doesn’t know why. During casting this character was named Russell. "Russell Faraday" is an alias used by the primary villain at the end of Stephen King's The Stand. Michael Faraday was a famous British chemist and physicist of the 19th century. He studied electromagnetism (one of the supposed properties of the Island) and observed the effect magnetic fields can have on rays of light (something Daniel appears to comment on).

Miles Straume
We first see Miles in Inglewood, California where he’s seems to be able to communicate with the dead (although sometimes for his own benefit). As Miles pulls up to Miss Gardner’s house we hear on the radio “… authorities are confirming all 324 passengers dead.” Seems Miles has a buddy at the police station (I wonder if his buddy knew Ana Lucia?). After over charging Miss Gardner, Miles heads up to the dead boys bedroom and has his spirit tell him where the drugs and money are. He takes the money, but feels guilty when he looks at the dead boys pictures on the wall. He returns 100 dollars to Miss Gardner. Here is the boys photo, I have a feeling we’ll see him again. This picture compares him to a young Eko... look similar but way too soon to make any predictions there.

Charlotte Staples Lewis
Charlotte’s first appearance is in Medenine, Tunisia where she reads in the paper about the finding of Oceanic 815:
Translator: “How many different languages do you have to read that in before you believe it’s true?”
Charlotte: “How many different languages are there?”
Guess she doesn’t believe it. In Tunisia Charlotte finds the skeleton of a Polar Bear wearing a collar that has the Dharma Hydra logo on it. Ever get the feeling the Island may not be far from Tunisia. We learn a lot more about Charlotte later from Ben. Charlotte’s name is taken from Clive Staples Lewis, most famous for writing the Chronicles of Narnia.

Frank Lapidus
Well it seems Frank is running a little shop in Eleuthera, The Bahamas. The sign on his window says Caribbean Dreams. Since he’s a pilot perhaps he is giving helicopter tours. It seems Frank was also a pilot for Oceanic 815, but Seth Norris took his spot for him the day it crashed.

Frank: “Because I was suppose to be flying 815 on that day.”

Frank calls 1-888-548-0034 (call it, see what happens… I did). He says that because Seth has no ring on, it’s not him. If we go back to season one, we can indeed see that the pilot is wearing his wedding ring.

Naomi Dorrit
Low and behold Naomi is working with Matthew Abbadon.
Naomi: “This is a high risk covert op in unstable territory. It’s dodgy enough without having to baby-sit a head case, ghost buster, anthropologist and a drunk.
Abbadon: “To be fair he’s also a pretty good pilot.”
The two argue about survivors of 815 but it seems clear they both know there will be some. It also seems when Abbadon asked Hurley “are they still alive” he may have been referring to his crew not the Losties. I get the feeling that the Freighter-ites aren’t 100% sure of their mission but I’m pretty sure Naomi was.

Back on the Island the date is December 23rd, 2004.
Like all vehicles that get close to the island the helicopter spins out of control dumping 3 off its four passengers. Daniel calls George Minkowski on the satellite phone. George isn’t a big fan of the speaker phone.

Locke still loves the rain and can still predict the weather. We notice that both Locke and Ben are shocked that Hurley seems to know about Jacob’s cabin.

Sayid: “Juliet you lived amongst the Others. Why would Ben say the people coming here intend to do us harm?”
Juliet: “Because he’s a liar and he’s trying to scare us. That’s what Ben does. Or because the people coming here intend to do us harm.”
Great help

Jack, Kate and Daniel find a crate from the helicopter. Seems it has a gas mask; I recall Ben wearing one of those.
Dan: “I’m not in charge of packing… rescuing you and your people… can’t really say it’s our primary objective.”
This character is awesome.

Seems losing that kidney wasn’t such a bad deal for Locke after all.

Miles: “ … remember when she said ‘tell my sister I love her’? That’s what we’re supposed to say if we are captured and have a gun to our head.”

Ben still cracks me up…
Ben: “Carl!!.... now if you are going to sleep with my daughter I insist you call me Ben.”
Sawyer calling him Yoda made me chuckle too. Ben also plants the seed that Sawyer is better off on the island then getting rescued.

Locke: “Let’s execute him right here right now in front of his daughter.”
As we know Sawyer has some issues about parents getting killed in front of their child.

Dan: “The light… strange out here isn’t it. It’s kinda like it doesn’t scatter quite right.”

Couple more funny quotes:
Jack: “I don’t know Miles, how stupid are ya?”
Miles: “You guys were on Oceanic 815??? WOW!!... better?”

Frank sees one of Mikhail’s cows. But he proves he is a pretty good pilot, landing the helicopter on the island.

So, why is Charlotte wearing a bulletproof vest???

So who is Ben’s “man” on their boat?
Miles: "Ragina its Miles. I need to talk to Minkowski.”
Ragina: “Minkowski can’t come to the phone right now.”
Miles: “its important go get him.”
Ragina: “Miles he can’t come to the phone right now.”
Miles: “Have him call me we he can.”
Ragina: “I gotta go.”

Ragina seems a bit preoccupied. Is she the mole? Is Minkowski? Or perhaps someone else … it’d be cool if it was Michael (we do know he’s coming back this season).

When it becomes clear Juliet wasn’t on 815 Miles lets the cat out the bag.
Miles: “We’re here for Benjamin Linus.”

This picture of Ben sure wasn’t taken on the island. Guess he lied again.

The final scene
Locke: “What is the monster?”
Ben: “What?”
Locke: “The black smoke? The monster? What is it?”
Ben: “I don’t know.”
Locke: “Goodbye Benjamin.”
Ben: “ Her name is Charlotte Lewis. Charlotte Staples Lewis. Born July 2nd, 1979, Essex, England (2 different Essex’s in one show???). Parents David and Jeanette. Eldest of three all girls. She was raised in Brownsgrove. Did her under graduate studies at Kent. Took her PhD in cultural Anthropology at Oxford. She’s here with two other team members and a pilot. Their names: Daniel Faraday, Miles Straume, Frank Lapidus. Your instinct was right John, these people are a threat. And if you shot me you’ll never know how great a threat they were. Because I know what they are doing here. I know what they want.
Sawyer: “What do they want?”
Ben: “Me James. They want me.”
Locke: “How do you know all this?”
Ben: “Because I have a man on their boat.”

Season 4 Episode 1

Season 4 Episode 1 - The Beginning of the End
Hurley Centric

Welcome back everyone. Sorry for the delay, I've been out of town. But better late than never...

Let's start with life on the island. Although rescue is on it's way Desmond brings the bad news that Charlie is dead. He also informs everyone that whoever is coming to rescue is likely up to no good. The group sets out to warn Jack and friends.

On their way back Hurley gets "Lost" and stumbles upon Jacob’s house. Before looking inside he hears some whispers. Here are some translations:
"You have to believe it's me, Nikki"
"Shush"
"Did anyone say something?"
"I said nothing"
"You better not say anything or talk about Desmond"
"It's Me"
"I'm not going to listen to them"
"It's January 7th"
"I see somebody"
"Do you recognize him?"

Hurley looks in the window of Jacob's cabin to see none other then Christian Sheppard (Jack's dad) sitting inside.

Is he alive or is that just his dead body? Or has Hurley REALLY gone crazy.

Hurley is then surprised by the same EYE that we seen when Locke was in Jacob's cabin last season.

Naomi is still alive and sneaks away into the jungle. Kate tricks Jack and takes the phone and goes looking for Naomi.

Ben: "But look on the bright side, at least someone around here knows what the hell they're doing"
Naomi lies to the rescue team about her injury (not sure why yet). She then dies.

Hurley has now met up with Locke and they are on their way to warn Jack. Jack isn't so thrilled about seeing Locke and tries to shoot him but the gun wasn't loaded. Hurley tells everyone that Charlie shouldn't die for no reason and most of the Losties follow Locke to the barracks.

A new character lands on the island in a final scene who we can all assume isn't really there to rescue anyone (Dharma guy perhaps, back to reclaim what Ben and the Others destroyed?)

Now for Hurley's flash forward which happens before Jack's flash forward from last season;

Jack: "I'm thinking about growing a beard."

Flash forward starts with Jack watching Hurley in a high speed chase. Did you happen to notice who was video taping on the side walk. None other then our old friend Randy, Locke's boss at the box compnay and Hurley's boss at the chicken joint.

Hurley smashes into a brown car. We've seen this same brown car numerous times throughout the series including Michael being hit, Kate hitting it and killing her friend as well as Locke's mom.

Hurley: "I'm one of the Oceanic 6"
So we now know 3 more people (other than Hurley, Kate and Jack) have made it off the island.
The cop who interviews Hurley was Ana Lucia's old partner (Season 2 Episode 8). He asks if Hurley met her and he says no.
He returns Hurley to the crazy house he was in before (same orderly is working there). Hurley goes back to playing connect 4 and painting.

That's when Matthew Abbadon shows up claiming to be from Oceanic. Note the cool chalk board drawing in the bacground.

Abbadon: "Are they still alive." Clearly he's not from Oceanic and Hurley freaks out.
Later on Hurley is outside when Charlie arrives. Was he really there? This guy seem to notice him. And if you are thinking that guy isn't real, I'm pretty sure he is since the nurse gave him medicine earlier in the episode.

Charlie basically tells Hurley "they" need him.
Jack comes to visit Hurley to make sure he's going to keep his mouth shut. They have a similar conversation as Jack and Kate did at the end of last season except Hurley is the one wanting to go back and Jack does not.
If you've taped the episode watch this scene again. There is clearly someone behind the backboard of the basketball net. This may just be one of the production crew or something we'll learn later.

And with that we have 15 more epsiodes of Season 4 to go.
This week:
"Confirmed Dead" - any flashback or flashforwards from this episode will be related to Naomi and her crew from the boat.
