Season 3 Episode 9

Season 3 Episode 9 Stranger in Strange Land

"Hey Dr Jack.. Dr Jack want soda.. Dr Jack"
Let's start with the flashback. Jackie boy ends up in Phukett Thailand. This is presumably after him and Sara split but before daddy has his drunken surgery mishap and loses his job. We know it's before that because Jack has the tattoos when that happens but not when he's with Sara. There he meets Achara who loves Jack long time. After a few months of sweet lovin' Jack follows her to find out her gift is she can "...see what people are..." and she tattoos it on them. She tattoos Jack which is against her peoples rules and because of that her brother and his friends give Jack a stomping and tell him to "hit the road...JACK"

Back on the Island Jack meets Isabelle, aka the Sheriff. She tells Jack "We don't live on this little island. In fact, most of us don't really even like coming here".

Carl confirms that the Others indeed live on the same Island as the Losties, with backyards none the less. He tells Kate and Sawyer that the other Island is only where they work... on projects. Kate then asks him why they took the Losties and the kids:
Carl "We give them a better life"
Kate "Better than what?"
Carl "Better than yours"

Sawyer finds Carl crying and gives him a nice shot in the arm. He then calls him Bobby. Carl lets Sawyer know he has no idea what the Brady Bunch is. No Dejavu channel on the Island I guess. Sawyer has a sweet line when he calls Alex Sally Slingshot. For some reason I get the feeling Carl isn't one of the Others. Maybe his family crashed on the Island or there are more groups then we know of but Ben certainly doesn't want him around. Sounds like some Classic Romeo and Juliet to me (no pun intended).

Cindy and the kids (and presumably the other stolen Losties) show up to "watch". Now, people are blowing this way out of proportion I think with their theories. It seemed pretty clear to me that they came to watch Juliet get sentenced (and maybe executed). The little girl asks how Anna Lucia is doing so clearly they haven't heard what happened at the hatch. Kids are growing pretty fast too, just like Walt did.

Alex wanted to see dear old daddy die apparently.

Ben has some interesting quotes last night:
Jack "I'd be much more impresses with you people if you had a good surgeon"
Ben "We had an excellent surgeon Jack. His name was Ethan"

And then when talking about Juliet
"Juliet doesn't care about you Jack. It doesn't matter what she's done. No matter what you think; she's one of us"

Ben sends a message that the execution is off because "the rules don't apply". Gives Juliet a nice asterisk on her back though.

Jack ends the episode as follows:
Isabelle "He walks amongst us, but he is not one of us. That's what your tattoos say"
Jack "That's what they say, but that's not what they mean"
And with that he rows out to the boat they used to take Walt and heads for 'home'.

Not the greatest episode. I really didn't enjoy the flashback at all.
Next week
'Tricia Tanaka is Dead"... a little Hurley flashback. Previews show Vincent with somebody's arm in his mouth, and someone driving a 1970s Volkswagen Mini Van with a Dharma logo on the front.

Season 3 Episode 8

Season 3 Episode 8 - Flashes Before Your Eyes

It's all about Desmond David Hume brotha!!

So if anything this episode created more questions then it did answer. Some how Desmond is predicting things. He also goes down as the first Lostie to actually relive his own flashback.

The numbers are still showing up as the time on Desmond's clock reads 108 (just like in the hatch) as well as the delivery man saying he had a package for 815.

One interesting piece of information before we start. Desmond has been on the island for roughly 3 years. Last week Juliet told Jack that after being on the Island for 3 years Ben was finally going to let her go. So it looks like Juliet and Desmond arrived at roughly the same time.

Let's start by getting a rough idea how long ago this flashback occurred. We know it's 2004 on the Island. We also know Desmond had been there for 3 years before the Losties arrived, so he showed up in 2001. We know Desmond still has to join the military and spend some time in prison (not sure how long) but when he gets out and meets Libby he tells her "I have 8 months to get in the best shape of my life" for the big race which lands him on the Island. We hear "Building a Mystery" by Sarah McLachlan, which was released in the summer of 1997. We also see Charlie playing some tunes on the street, before he was the famous guy from Drive Shaft. Now someone has already tried to argue with me that this could be after the band broke up. Let me just squash that... (1) Anytime ANYONE says to Charlie "don't I know you from somewhere" he always replies with either Drive Shaft or by singing their big hit "You All Everybody". He didn't reply that way to Desmond. (2) He's singing Wonderwall by Oasis instead of a Drive Shaft song. (3) This is also before his drug use since he says to Desmond "This is why we don't do drugs kids".
Sidenote - Did you notice Charlie's middle name was Hieronymus. Hieronymus was a famous painter who used his paintings to depict the evil in man. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hieronymus_Bosch
So to summarize we are looking at somewhere around 97-99.

Seeing Claire drowing reminded me of when Boone tried to save the girl drowning in season 1 and Jack saved Boone. Few episodes later Boone was dead anyway. Did life "course correct" itself.

Desmond meets Mr. Widmore. Widmore has a painting on his wall that includes a polar bear, mountains, a statue and written backwards the word Namaste. In case you forgot this is how all the orientation videos end, with the Marvin Candle/Wickman saying "Namaste, and good luck". Desmond also makes an interesting quote when asked about going to university. "... I had to look after my 3 brothers after my father..." before Widmore cuts him off. We have already seen that a lot of Losties have at least one dead parent (Kate, Jack, Sawyer, Shannon, etc.) Perhaps we will be adding Desmond to the list.

Then comes the crazy old lady. She makes some significant points:
She tells Des if he doesn't push the button for 3 years then turn the key that the "rest of us" will be dead.
"The universe has a way of course correcting"
"Pushing that button is the only truly great thing you'll ever do"

Desmond doesn't like being called a coward. But he gets it a lot.
Last seasons final episode:
Desmond "What makes you think I would just run away"
Widmore "Because you're a coward"
Last nights episode:
Penny tells him if he's going to break up with her to do it because he's a coward. Then of course Charlie calls him a coward and he freaks out.

The receptionsit at Widmore's office also played one fo the EMT's in the Season One Finale episode where Jack meets Desmond in a flashback

Will Charlie die?? Let's hope he bores me. But as of right now episode 17 is rumored to be about Charlie so if he bites it I don't see it happening until then.

My thoughts: I really don't think Desmond is traveling time. With all the experiments going on (like poor old Carl last week) him reliving a flashback isn't so crazy. What needs to be explained is the flashes he sees about Charlie being killed off. But if these guys could arrange for Juliet's hubby to be struck by a bus, couldn't they potentially be setting up these events with Charlie to see how long Des can save the day? Just a theory

NEXT WEEK
Episode 9 Stranger in a Strange Land - Jack flashback
Looks like Cindy the flight attendant will be making an appearance. We haven't seen her since the night the Others took her, right before Anna shot Shannon...

See Ya's in Another Life Brotha.....

Season 3 Episode 7

Season 3 Episode 7 - Not in Portland

WELCOME BACK !!!

Last night I was happy to see some reoccurring themes return,
The numbers:
The needle Juliet gives her sister says "Week 4 batch" on it
Her security card is for lab A-4
Carl is in room 23

Octagons,
The lamp/clock beside Juliet's sister's bed was octagon shaped

Ok on to the episode. We first see Juliet walking down a hallway where she spots Ethan leaving a room. She enters that same room where we find her sister, who we can tell is clearly ill. She injects her with a needle. At first we may assume that she's trying to cure her sister but we discover later she is trying to impregnate her. Her sister's name is Rachel.

Juliet's flashbacks take place in Miami. This is also where Kate's latest flashback took place. Juliet's full name is Juliet Burke and she works at the Miami Central University Bio Medical Research Lab for her ex-husband Edmund. Since Edmund's last name is Burke we still do not know Juliet's maiden name.

Then things get a little crazy. A recruiter from Mittelos Bioscience, Richard Albert, shows up to try and hire Juliet. Now in classic Lost form there is a website called www.mittelosbioscience.org up and running. It lists 5 Executives, 3 of which are: Richard Albert, Ethan Rom & you guessed it, Juliet Burke. It's worth going to check the site out and read their bios. It seems Ethan may be Canadian after all. It also says Juliet joined the company in 2001. This would make sense considering we know it is 2004 on the Island. Now try this, on the website go to projects. It asks for a login and password. Login: jburke, password: rachel
This brings you to a new screen that lists two folders, 'future projects' and 'current projects'. Future Projects is restricted. When you click current it shows you a map of Experiment 108 which looks to be the island the losties are on, a smaller island which Ben and friends are on AND a third smaller island called Observation Island. After a few seconds the screen says NEW MESSAGE. When you click you get an email from Rachel as follows:
"Hey Jules,
I ended up getting that camcorder I wrote you about. I sure hope you are still getting these messages... I know your job makes it "impossible" to reply but that's not going to keep me from sending them! She's getting SO big Julie. She asks about you everyday. We made a little something for you (web link).
I know you are well Juliet, and doing what you love. I just miss you. Be safe
Love Rachel"

When you click the weblink a video starts to play of presumably Rachels daughter saying she misses her aunt Julie. Then the screen goes fuzzy and a disguised voice cuts in and out with the following...
"Juliet it's me. I've been trying to contact you for years, to warn you... Hanso has been running these experiments for years Juliet, and you're in one. You are the experiment. You are one... we all are... The Hanso Foundation, JWC Wittemore Corporation, Mittlelos Bioscience... it's all the same Juliet... for over a century they've been in control... they've been killing us... they were trafficking slaves in the 1800's not to sell... THEY ARE GOING TO KILL YOU... they are the ones who commissioned ... experiments on humans... don't let them know I contacted-d-d-d" and the video ends with her niece saying I love you.

By he way if you rearrange the letters in Mettilos you get LOST TIME
INSANITY

Do you remember from my last blog how Juliet told Ben they had taken Alex home. Well either she was lying or Alex used her little boat to come back. Her return gives Sawyer a chance to use some great nicknames like Zena and Underdog. He also calls a messed up Carl "Cheech". When the trio go to rescue Carl the guard out front, Aldo, is reading "A Brief History of Time". This is a book written by famous scientist Stephen Hawking (aka the wheelchair guy). It's basically considered astronomy for dummies, using pictures instead of equations. It's also been spotted in other things like Harry Potter, Legally Blonde and even Weird Als "White and Nerdy" video. More info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Brief_History_of_Time

Aldo is the first one in the episode to point out that Alex's father is most likely Ben, although no one ever officially says it. If that is the case, and Rousseau is Alex's mother, do you get the feeling Rousseau may have fallen victim to some artificial insemination? Cleary Rousseau doesn't know Ben because she was the one who captured him in season 2 in the big net. I'm pretty sure she would have mentioned that had slept together. Rousseau claims she killed Alex's father.
It also brings up another interesting point. Someone is pregnant. And that someone's husband is supposed to be sterile. Perhaps Sun got a needle jabbed in her as well. I recall Claire "dreaming" she got jabbed when she was pregnant, as well as Ethan needling her.

So the trio finds poor Carl in what looks like a scene from the movie "A Clockwork Orange". The screen lists the following phrases:
"Plant a good seed and you will joyfully gather fruit"
"Everything Changes"
"We are the cause of our own suffering"
"God loves you as He loved Jacob" (remember last blog Danny saying Jack wasn't even on Jacob's list)
"Think About your Life"
Do you remember when Michael finally found Walt and Ms. Clue said "Walt! Do you want me to put you back in the room again?" I'm guessing this was the room she was talking about. That episode was called "three minutes" which was the amount of time Michael had with Walt and was also the time Jack gave Juliet and Ben together last night.

My coworker Melissa has a very interesting theory regarding Juliet's sister. "Juliet became famous for impregnating a MALE field mouse. What if her sister use to be male?" I like it.

Juliet kills old Danny Boy.

So Dr. Alfred and Ethan show up after Juliet's ex-hubby gets hit by a bus. We are to assume they made that happen... what other events could they have made happen?
Last night's episode ends with Juliet saying "I've been on this island for 3 years Jack. Three years, 2 months and 28 days. He said if I let him live and I help you, that he would finally let me go home"

Next weeks episode "Flashes Before Your Eyes" Desmond flashback BROTHER!!
