Season 3 Episode 11

Season 3 Episode 11 – Enter 77

Sayid Jarrah is a bad mother… well ya know.

Flashback has Sayid in Paris, under an alias, cooking at an Arabic restaurant. He runs into fellow Iraqi Sammi and his wife Amera. Long story short Sayid tortured Amera when he was an Iraqi interrogator. Sayid finally admits what he’s done by saying “I remember you. I remember your face. Your face has haunted me since I left Iraq”. She has a cat that looks a lot like another cat in the episode, but we’ll get to that. Because she doesn’t want to be a bad person like Sayid and the kids who had the cat in the box she lets Sayid go.

Now back to the wacky Island. Kate, Locke, Sayid and Danielle stumble upon Eye Patch, now known as Mikhail Bakunin. Danielle doesn’t stick around and says “I’ve survived on this Island precisely by avoiding these types of situations.”

After putting a bullet in Sayid, Mikhail claims to be the last surviving member of Dharma. Now, later in the episode he tells Sayid “I was never a member {of Dharma}, but everything else I told you was true. I moved into the station after the purge.”

He’s been on the Island for 11 years and lives in The Flame station, which is used for communication with the outside world. He explains that Dharma tried to purge the Hostiles (Others) by starting a war but they were all killed. Now just to side track for a second, does this mean Kelvin was actually an Other and not a Dharma guy? This would give a different reason to why he was fixing the sail boat and not letting Desmond leave the Hatch. Kelvin’s former partner was Razinsky, which is also Russian.

He claims that the Others were on the Island a long time before Dharma… a very long time. In true Lost fashion Mikhail’s cat is named Nadia just like Sayid’s girlfriend. Mikhail claims he named the cat after Nadia Comancci the famous Russian Olympian. Now he says he shares the same birth date with Comancci. She was born November 12th, 1961. November 12th, 11/12, 11+12= 23. At the time of the plane crash Mikhail would have been 42, now 43. Also, Comancci’s parents named her after a Russian film character, Nadezhda. That name means ‘hope’.

He continues to explain that the Flame Station’s satellite hasn’t worked in years. He says the station is the Hub for all the electrical systems for all the stations on the Island. He tells Sayid the cord going into the ocean is an underwater beacon to help guide in submarines.

So Sayid realizes there must be someone else in the station so he puts the boots to Mikhail and ties him up.
Sayid “They sent someone out here because they lost communication”
Locke “Maybe when the sky turned purple”

Like all good Dharma stations there is a hatch. Down there they find the walls covered in C4, some pretty Dharma uniforms and some instructions manuals. The two Sayid looks at are:
Dharma Initiative Food Drop Protocol
Dharma Initiative Operations Manual

Meanwhile upstairs Locke defeats the computer chess game and our favorite one armed friend Marvin Candle shows up in the screen:
For palette drop enter 24
For uplink enter 32
For main land communication enter 38
The satellite dish is inoperable, communications are down
For sonar access enter 56
Sonar is inoperable
Has there been an insertion of this station by the hostiles?
If so enter 77

As he’s screwing around he gets caught. Downstairs Bea Klugh (a.k.a. Ms. Clue) appears and jumps Kate. This leads to a stand off out side. Klugh and Mikhail then have a conversation in Russian. Aren’t you glad I’m fluent?
Klugh: Mikhail. Mikhail! You know what to do.

Mikhail: We still have another way out.
Klugh: We cannot take the risk. You know the conditions.
Mikhail: There is another way.
Klugh: They captured us. We will not give in and betray.
Klugh: You know what to do. It is an order.
Mikhail: We still have another way!
Klugh (in English): Just do it, Mikhail.
Mikhail: Forgive me. (shoots)

And Bea Klugh… be dead. Mikhail is trying his best to have the Losties kill him as well. I don’t foresee someone with that kind of death wish lasting too long.

The Losties gather up some supplies included some blueprints to lead them to “the barracks”. Crazy Locke goes back in and pushes 77 and we learn quickly what the C4 was for. BOOM. Happy to see Nadia, the cat, survive though. Guess the cow wasn’t so lucky.

You didn’t think I was going to leave out Sawyer did you?
Quotes:
To Paulo: “Listen Zorro”.
Hurley: Avalanche and Grimise
Sun/Jin: Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
And my pick of the week, to Nikki:
“A, it was mine when I took it and B, who the hell are you??”

Lets hope the week of no nicknames is over by next episode.

Wicked episode
Next week, “Par Avion” a.k.a. Air Mail. Claire flashback. ABC says next week we’ll find out a connection between two Losties. Here is a hint. Think of when Anna-Lucia and Christian Sheppard were in Australia.

And with that I’m gone. “I’ll wait for you by the stream. Those of you who survive.”
